Hi I’m John, (one of the many friends and neighbors, of Pete and Youtaz Wood and their families) – and I’m fortunate enough to be part of a community based network of people who want to do more for their neighbors. We set this site up with a goal to help Pete and his family, and the thousands of other people impacted by Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Lou Gehrig’s or Motor Neuron Disease, the various names by which it is commonly known around the world .
“Teamwork makes the dream work!”
Lou Gehrig who was affected by ALS (was an American baseball player who played 17 seasons in Major League Baseball for the New York Yankees, from 1923 through 1939) and the fact that Pete and his son Zac regularly played on our street prior to the disease being diagnosed, and are avid fans, gave us the theme “baseball”. It’s not only a great sport, but it also teaches you the value of teamwork, of people working together to achieve a goal, our teams dream is to try in our own small way to help combat ALS!
Thanks for supporting Pitch4Pete!
“Like Lou Gehrig who was a determined, committed and a focused athlete who played 2130 consecutive baseball games before being diagnosed with ALS, I’d like to be the Lou Gehrig of life and continue to play as many consecutive games as is possible.” – Pete Wood 2015
To work as a team and ”connect the dots quicker” between the strengths and capabilities of physicians, researchers, consultants, funding partners, family and friends locally in Canada and Internationally – to deliver research and trials for ALS patients everywhere more expediently and transparently, sharing knowledge, with the goal of both managing and preventing the disease for present and future generations. With everyone unified towards the same end goal – defeating ALS, and releasing the patients from their own personal bullpens!
